Looking for momentum in ministry? We can be busy rearranging objects in dim places when what is really needed is more direct light. The god of this world hides the glory of the God of the Bible from people — he hides the light of the glorious gospel. And what is hidden from people is precisely what saves them: the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 3-4)

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. — 2 Corinthians 4:6

We are ambassadors. We have been made able ministers of the new testament. (2 Corinthians 3:6) However, like mirrors, we reflect the light — the light is not our own. We reflect it either directly or indirectly, and the true colors of those around us are shown with varying brilliance by how directly we reflect the light of God’s glory. Are we busy finding momentum for ministry? Are we looking for it in the right places?

Momentum comes from unveiling God’s glory.

Here is what the apostle Paul said about his ministry to the Corinthian church: “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2) The answer to dim, tired, program-driven ministry is not better programs; it is teaching God’s written word in such a way as to unveil His glory, so that people can respond in faith — believing God. Glory is about giving credit where credit is due; missions is about leading people to know and believe the truth about God’s person. Whose glory drives your ministry determines its momentum.
